Abstract EN

This study aimed to identify the training needs of teachers of Arabic as a second language in language testing.

Specifically, the study attempted to assess the teachers’ perceptions of the adequacy of language testing courses in higher education and the in-service training sessions they had.

Furthermore, the study investigated the Arabic teachers' future training needs for preparing language tests and analyzing them in order to improve the quality of teaching Arabic as a second language programs.

A questionnaire was employed to collect and analyze data quantitatively.

The researcher surveyed 60 male and female teachers working at various Arabic language institutions in Saudi Arabia, and with different educational degrees.

The results pointed out to the inadequacy of the language testing courses Arabic teachers had in higher education programs and the offered in-service training sessions.

Despite their scarcity, some of these courses focused on the theoretical rather than the empirical aspects of language testing.

Finally, the vast majority of participants expressed their need to have practical training sessions in language testing.

The study concluded with some implications and recommendations for those working in the field.
