Abstract EN

This study investigates an important purpose of Arabic poetry, namely, the apology for fleeing war in Jahuli Poetry, using the descriptive and analytical approaches.The researcher studied the linguistic meaning of the apology, the semantic development of the word and the idiomatic meaning that did not deviate from the linguistic meaning.

The researcher also talked about the Arab life that was beset by wars and constituted a prominent phenomenon in it for social and economic reasons, revealing the position of the Arabs towards it with reluctance and turnout.The researcher also dealt with the phenomenon of desertion, revealing its causes, and explaining the justifications for fleeing, represented by fear of death or capture.

In addition, the researcher studied the attitudes of those who reject this behavior from within the tribe, who considered it an insult and a disgrace that brings humiliation, and the enemies make it fertile material for satire and bragging them.

Finally, The researcher dealt with the apology and its social and moral value and its psychological functions, and revealed its scarcity and confined it to specific poets characterized by courage and intransigence in war which also has a credit of victories and championship.

The topics of the fleeing war poetry present the justifications that would relieve them of blame and embarrassment, and plan to start upcoming wars to restore honor.
