Abstract EN

The paper deals with the reliability of news on the social media from the viewpoints of the students of Tikrit University.

It has applied in the field on the community of the Media department students - College of Arts - Tikrit University, and their total number is fifty students.

The study is a descriptive research in which the researcher used the survey method by using the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data.

The paper is divided into several topics: The first subject deals with the methodological framework of the study, the second topic deals with the theoretical framework, which includes the concept of credibility of the media in general, and the international media in particular, in addition to the components of credibility.

The third subject deals with the field studying.

Then, the study reaches to the following results: 1.

The majority of the respondents believe that the WhatsApp application is the most reliable application for transmitting news.2.

The majority of respondents are lacked to the advantages provided by electronic journalism, which make them less interested in comparing to other websites.3.

The majority of respondents believe that the Facebook application is faster than other applications in transmitting news.4.

The majority of the respondents believe that news published on social networking sites are not always believable unless they are supported by evidence such as: documents, videos and photos, which in turn increases its credibility, and the level of its impact.5.

The majority of respondents are ignorant of the advantages provided by the electronic press, which made them less interested in it compared to other websites.
