Abstract EN

The British interest in Kuwait back to 1775 when the idea of moving of the East India Company from Basrah to Kuwait has been emerged due to the blockade made by Safavids on Basrah , from that time Britain started to pay efforts to have a control on it , at the period between 1820-1899 Britain tried to involve Kuwait to the protection agreements that was imposed on the Arabian emirates , but it couldn´t persuade their rulers as they intend to keep their emirates out of British control as well as not to poke the Ottoman Empire that was looking for interfering in Kuwait .

At the ends of 19th century the British interesting in Kuwait was increased as it has been involved in this agreements after Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah desired , as the both parties held the protection agreement in 1899 which legalized the real British existence in Kuwait and made it an important political and economic center that Britain paid much efforts to keep it, especially after the other countries such as those in Europe and Ottomans tried hard to obtain the same benefits , for that reason Britain looked to make an agency and employ an agent in Kuwait to keep their policy in there due to the remotely distance of the British residency in Bushehr as well as to prevent any potential intervention which mean a direct threat to their policy in Kuwait .
