The Ethiopian-Israeli relations were characterized by their bifurcation and diversity, as Israel employed all its political, economic, cultural and military means in order to strengthen its relations with Ethiopia, and those relations developed to include cooperation in the intelligence field, due to the enormous capabilities of Ethiopia in controlling the waters of the Nile.

Its roots go back to the fifties of the last century.

The Israeli-Ethiopian relations began to develop widely, in light of the political governments that succeeded to rule in Ethiopia.

These relations rose during the reign of Emperor Haile Selassie, and these relations continued during the reign of Meles Zenawi and included all political, economic and security fields.

It is noticeable that the relationship between the two sides was built on the basis of common interests between the two sides and the identification of Israel, which seeks to control the waters of the Nile and control its main sources, through which it exerts pressure on both Egypt and Sudan, which from its viewpoint constitute a threat to its national security.
