Abstract EN

This paper studied the most important causes and risks affecting adobe buildings and ruins in the Tell Es-Sawwan area in Iraq.

This study highlighted an ancient civilization of this region, as it accurately diagnosed the causes and mechanisms of damage, and identified appropriate treatment methods.

The most important risks, according to the study, are climatic influences and human factors.

Moreover, many adobe ruins have been destroyed due to exposure to environmental shock during excavation.

The study provided many tests and analyses of archaeological adobe materials, such as X-ray analysis, imaging and study with the scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the study of physical and mechanical properties of mud bricks.

The study concluded that the best method for restoration is the mechanical and strengthening restoration by using mud mixtures modified with natural and local materials, which enhance the brick's resistance to environmental factors.
