English Abstract

The civilizational exchange between the Islamic world and the Occident took various forms throughout history, emphasizing thus the inevitable encounter between civilizations.

Numerous spaces embraced those interactions; namely the fandouk, as it was designated In the Islamic western world, whereas in the east it was known as the khan.

Those facilities played a crucial role in the commercial exchange.

They actually bridged the gap Between the European community and the Maghrebi cities as far as the diverse cultural exchange was concerned.
