Abstract EN

In the late fifth century AH / eleventh century the Arab Islamic State was subjected to the fiercest expansionist campaign, called the Crusades, which launched from Western Europe targeting the land of Arand Muslims, plundering its goods and settling in it, taking advantage of the weakness of the Islamic world, which was living in a state of weakness, fragmentation and division.

This led to the success of the first campaign.

The Crusaders tried to implement their expansion policy outside the Levant to reach Egypt to achieve their expansion project and secure their presence, taking advantage of the weakness of the Fatimid state in that era.

The Crusaders noticed that the best way to achieve their goals in the occupation of Egypt is to occupy the city of Tennis first, which is considered one of the most important portions of Egypt on the Mediterranean Sea, and because of the market importance of this city as it represents the link between Egypt and the Levant.

This study came to show the importance of the city militarily, thanks to the presence of its fortifications of walls and towers, as well as being the headquarters of the Egyptian naval fleet and a house for shipbuilding.
