The banking activity expanded significantly during the Abbasid era, due to the expansion of commercial activity among the regions of the Arab Islamic state.

Several private banks were established in the Abbasid era, and their mission was to provide loans and facilitate the work of merchants, as well as address the financial crises that the Abbasid caliphate was exposed to.

Much money plays an effective role in establishing such banks and providing them with financial facilities, either to merchants or to state officials.

Among the means of financial and commercial dealings in the Abbasid era was the use of the sukuk and sukuk, so the suftajah was used as a means for the purpose of transferring money from one place to another without being exposed to the dangers of the road, which encouraged merchants to practice their commercial activities and transfer their money safely, and used the instrument as a means to pay money in commercial transactions, as well as to pay livelihoods and salaries.

The private banks have contributed significantly to providing cash, credit operations, loans and loans, and settling commercial transactions through bills and sukuk between merchants in the various cities of the Arab Islamic Stat.
