The concept of smart city has received great attention from city planners and those interested inspatial sciences in general and more recently، the concept of smart city refer to the city، which has its elements، activities and activities with an advanced level of technology and smart applications، to becomehighly effective in accomplishing the tasks assigned to it Smart cities are self-sufficient in all areas ofeconomic، social، environmental، transport and mobility.

Smart city planning is based on the optimal utilization of technology savings in planning and managementtowards making them smarter on the one hand and the principle of empowerment.

Our research links the smart city model with its characteristics and advantages on the one hand andthe tourism sector، specifically religious tourism on the other hand by proposing the approach of smarttourism as an important knowledge area and take advantage of the global models of smart cities in thisand used in restructuring the religious tourism sector in the holy cities In Iraq، smart tourism is a conceptrelated to e-tourism، but represents an extension of it، and is based on the introduction of smart technologyand automation and electronic cloud connected to the Internet and promote remote communicationbetween the elements of physical tourism Making tourism information available and enabling queryingeasily without physical communication and relying on smart applications as a guide for tourism developmentand its impact in coming up with recommendations and proposals that provide a developmentplanning guide that represents a package of directions required to achieve to ensure the achievement ofappropriate tourism offer and achieve sustainable development.
