Abstract EN
The research is interested in studying Iran - Tunisia relations on the political side during the period 1989-2011.
The relations during the period under discussion were distinguished by stability and development compared to the period that preceded them and that subsequent one.
Perhaps the seeking for the stability of relations between the two sides was desirable for both countries, and therefore this was reflected in the reality of political relations between them and extended to include various aspects of other relations.
The research attempted to consider the topic in all its aspects beginning by studying the emergence of relationships relations in 1956 until the Tunisian Revolution in 2011, by examining the course of relations during the era of AL-Habib Bourguiba and the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, which was characterized by improvement and cooperation; then the repercussions of the Iranian revolution in 1979 on the relations between the two countries that reached the stage of tension and interruption in 1987, and then resumed in 1990 after Zine El Abidine Ben Ali took the presidency of Tunisia in 1989, and the developments that occurred after that until 2011.
Iran's official position and policy to the Tunisian changes towards the revolution, the resulting events, and changes in the regime of Ben Ali, in addition to the differing positions of each of them with regard to the affairs of the Arab countries, especially in Yemen, Syria, and the Arab Gulf states that Tunisia announced its side with against Iranian interference.
Then Al-Baji Qaʾid as-Sibsi, assumed the presidency of Tunisia, who knew that he was one of the members of the old regime during the era of President AL-Habib Bourguiba, as he embraced his ideas and directions, all of which contributed to raising the concern and suspicion of the Tunisian government in its dealings with Iran, that negatively affected relations between the two countries and made them in an unstable state, governed by uncertainty, mistrust, and disbelief, especially by the Tunisian government.
