Cyprus is in a state of conflict due to historical, geographical and economic factors.

The island has always represented the importance of Djibouti for its location and its role in the Mediterranean, the extent of its influence on Turkey and Greece and on the international relations of the Eastern Mediterranean, and for its impact on the actors in the international arena.

Geographical factors have imposed its presence in all those dimensions.

Natural gas exploration in the northern part of Cyprus, after the US geological survey estimated that the gas store reached trillions of cubic meters of natural gas and billions of barrels of oil, and Turkey sent ships for exploration, especially after the Turkish-Libyan agreement that led to the expansion of Turkey's economic sphere of influence, and imports from the United Nations, the European Union and Greece Cyprus' exploration operations and considered the matter a violation of international law, while it considers this region uniquely part of the continental shelf and has even threatened to violate its rights in the Mediterranean by using force.
