Mikhail Bakhtin discussed a lot of his critiques the "Clown" figure as a carnivalistic subject that was transferred from the popular carnival scene to the written literature after the Middle Ages.

At the same time, a lot of the "Clown's" narrative functions kept its medieval antiestablishment characteristics.

This research studies these narrative functions of the 'Clown" in Bakhtin critical theories, which can be summarized in five functions according to his literature: The author's vice or mask, revealing the natural self of human, reordering the world, criticizing the authority.
