Abstract EN

The current research (displacement) and its role in the (dropout) of the displaced families from the countryside to the city of Damascus, these families that lost everything under the circumstances of the war and the poverty and the need for the employment of each individual, pushed them to get their children out of school, and making them go to the labor market to produce income for their families.

The phenomenon of dropout children from school is not the result of the war.

The Syrian society is suffering from the phenomenon of the dropout of students from before the war, especially among girls.

However, the war that the country has been going through between 2011 and 2018 increases this problem and the circumstances leading to this phenomenon, especially in the first three years of the war according to statistics of the Ministry of Education, where displacement constitutes the worst.

The research has come out with a number of results, the most important of which is that displacement is the main reason for the dropout of children from basic education, according to the sample of the study 76%.

Most of the displaced families who have children who drop out of school live in rented houses and their proportion of the sample amounts to 82%.

22% of households of the sample studied were in desperate need for income and had to opt for male children leaving school to work for income.

The reasons for dropping out of school differ for males than that for females.

House rents for displaced families constitute 50% of their monthly income expenses.
