One of the international practices that witnessed a significant increase, especially after the events of 11 September 2001, is the deportation of persons suspected of terrorism-related crimes by countries that consider them a threat to their national security to other countries in exchange for diplomatic assurances that they would not be subjected to torture.

This practice has aroused the attention of non-governmental organizations that have expressed their growing concern about this practice as it has an impact on the olute nature of the principle of non-refoulement enshrined in international human rights law.
