Abstract EN

The German philosopher Jürgen Habermas (1929 - .....) is considered as one of the most prominent contemporary German thinkers of the Frankfurt school or new critical theory.

He is one of the few philosophers who developed critical theory in its philosophical and sociological dimensions.

He focuses on the role of philosophy, its re-employment and the necessity of its involvement in any theory concerning the future of modern society.

Furthermore, its importance is due to his belief in modernity as an unfinished project, and his adherence to restoring Criticism of the Enlightenment in an era in which voices were raised to demand the abandonment of the project of modernity, and the declaration of intellectual and philosophical failure, as a result of a critical situation of decadence and irrationality in western societies mainly during the first half of the twentieth century.

Habermas's analysis of this situation was developed through many appropriate concepts such as: the instrumental mind, alienation, loss of individual status, the restriction of freedom and the fall of industrial societies in fierce state of consumption and objectification.

Habermas achieved his critical view about European "modernity crisis", trying to restore confidence in the modernist project, which was seen as an incomplete project.

He started from an integrated analysis that tried to formulate new values of thought, free from all forms of domination.

He tried to establish new rules based on dialogue, freedom and activation of the role of language between individuals through “communicative action theory” , as a social theory that promotes participative democracy, based on language and dialogue, and aims to establish a public space, framed by the communicative mind and ethics of debate
