Abstract EN

Whether written or oral, directed and ideological, discourse strives to highlight certain thoughts as obvious, justifiable, and useful, and points out contradictory thoughts to the norm.

Discourse has a close association with dominance and power, and is shaped via power and ideologies.

Hence, in analyzing the discourse of a work, its ideological dimensions are discussed more than its grammatical aspects.

In the midst of World War I, Sir Henry McMahon, as the representative of the King of Great Britain in Egypt, and Sharif Hussein, as the ruler of Mecca, appointed by the Ottoman Empire, secretly exchanged letters and correspondences.

The covert correspondences of these two political figures during the World War I has outstanding social and ideological aspects.

In the present paper, the correspondence of these two political figures are analyzed via Van Dijk’s discourse analysis model.
