Al Anbari, oneof the eminent scholars of Kufa, was interestedin collecting people's daily as wellas religious life.

This gave him the incentiveto write his book.

We often hear wordsand proverbs that we wish if we knew theirmeaning.

However we forget it just after awhile.

Hence I decided to do this researchand started to search such vocabulary.

The paper is divided into two chapters anda conclusion.

Chapter one: the concept of Sociolinguisticsin the linguistic literature.

Chapter two: the social functions of languagein Al Zahir.

Finally I wish I succeeded to introduce thispaper and I pray that all our deeds be acceptedby Allah.
