Abstract EN

Despite many Arab novelists and writers who have been influenced by European modernity and embellished the foundations of their stories with its mechanisms and manifestations, the famous Libyan novelist Ibrahim Al-Koni has been traditionalist in most of his novels.

It has been around them to chart traditional and ancient culture, thought and values.

In other words, in the text of his stories, he puts tradition at the center of the story and either puts modernity and its effects in the shadows or shows a negative function of it to the audience.

Al-Bair's novel, which has a mysterious feature, is one of Al-Khosuf's four novels, Al-Khasof's Quartet, by Ibrahim Al-Koni, whose characters each have a traditionalist function and depict classical values and culture for us.

Based on the descriptive-analytical method, this article consists of two parts: A- Theoretical dimension: In this section, we deal with the function, species, nature and manifestations of tradition.

B- Functional dimension: In this section, we will apply the actions of tradition, including: cultural, sociological and political action with the characters of the story.

As a result, the author has had a more symbolic tendency in the actions of tradition, which is manifested in icons such as "Al-Sahara" or "Al-Bair" and so on.

Sociologically, it tends to be "antifeminist" and "civil rights", and in cultural activism it uses "totemism, totalitarianism", "destinyism" and "superstition" in the mirror of the characters of "Sheikh Ghoma" and "Zanji" and in political action, too, we see the approach of "totalitarianism" and "totalitarianism" in the character of "Ghoma."
