Abstract EN

The Sufi orders led the resistance movement against the colonizer immediately after the demise of the Bailek with the surrender of the Dai Hussein.

Each Sufi brotherhood covered the geographical area in which its followers spread a fierce resistance, offsetting the absence of temporal power represented by the Bailek, whose authority was overthrown by the Dai Hussein, except of Ahmed Bey in Constantine in the east of the country.

Amir Abdelkader led the Qadiriyah brotherhood in the west.

After that, the Shaykhya brotherhood took action in resistance for a period of time which made it the longest in the history of resistance against the colonizer, and made its leader Sheikh Bouamama one of the most famous sheikhs who stood against France and its generals one after the other.This resistance has passed through two stages: the first was known as the revolution of Wled Sidi al-Sheikh and the second of Sheikh Bouamama which was also known after being the longest in the history of resistance as the most violent one after El Amir resistance.

Unfortunately, the resistance has failed for many reasons including the differences between the eastern and the western branches of the tribe
