Abstract EN

Modernist thought is an extension of the Qur’anian’s idea that appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century, and with the passage of time this thought became exposed, and its call aimed at destroying the (Prophet’s Sunnah).

In this paper, we will alert the reader to its danger.

The importance research lies in highlighting the efforts of the honorable Companions - may Allah be pleased with them - in caring for the Sunnah as recipients adopting and inferring, and proving that the Companions- may Allah be pleased with them – were so keen on preserving the status of the Prophet’s Sunnah and making it the second legislative source.

Explaining what was reported of the noble Companions stances which superficially appear to be refusing the Prophet’s Sunnah and not adopting it.

The research shows the great role that the honorable Companions played towards the Sunnah, whether learning, adopting or spreading through criteria that preserved the status of the Prophet Sunnah.

The research reveals the Copmanions interest in the body of the Prophet’s Hadith and broadening the circle of its understanding in case the Hadith has no straight interpretation.

Returning to the Qur’an and Sunnah is the most important criterion for the honorable Companions in the process of criticism of the body of Hadith.

The criticism of the prophetic Hadith reporting practiced by the noble Companions was not intended to deny the narrator or to suspect him, but was rather was aimed as a revision and precaution, in recognition of human delusion and forgetfulness.

This research also highlights the critical approach of the noble Companions, because their approach is meant to defend the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

The process of Hadith criticism that the honorable Companions undertook is characterized by Ijtihad work, which includes errors and shortcomings and cannot be taken for granted.

The Companions refrain from the Sunnah was not a predominant feature of their approach but rather it was only in certain cases called for for critical considerations.
