Abstract EN

This paper attempts to diagnose the state of poverty in Mauritania via an assessment of the social and economic policies in the field of Poverty Combatting.

The assessment starts from the independence era until the agreement of the “strategic framework”, considered as the core determinant of the development policies in the Country.

The main hypothesis of the studyis that the poverty can be shortly defined as Deprivation of empowerment.

Moreover, we consider that the strategies to deal with poverty do not meet poor classes needs due to structural and economic factors, corruption, and uneven distribution of wealth.

This latter is considered as the most relevant factor the current situation in Mauritanian.
