Abstract EN

This article examines the image of scientific communication in the Azawad region in northern Mali, and the Tunisian metropolis, through two rare texts represented in the messages between Sheikh Ibrahim al-Riahi al-Tunisi, and Sheikh Muhammad al-Khalifa bin al-Mukhtar al-Kanti al-Azawadi who lived during the nineteenth century AD.

Thesetwo letters give us a clear picture of the depth of scientific and civilizational relations among scholars of the two banks of the Sahara Desert, and the movement of transmission of diverse knowledge through the exchange of books, which were carried by commercial caravans and convoys of pilgrims crossing the desert.

The importance of this study lies in the fact that it mainly depends on the investment of the documentary stock material found in the national coffers in the production of new historical knowledge.

It is also a fruitful source of research on the subject of scientific communication between Azawad and the Tunisian metropolis; especially that it is based on fraternal exchanges between the scholars of both ends of the desert.

Actually, the messages exchanged between Riahi and Muhammad al-Khalifa the Kanti are not only important in monitoring scientific communication between the two regions, but also go beyond it to explain many historical facts, especially those related to the conflict between the Qadiriya and Tijania methods in Africa that were fueled by colonial powers to control the region
