Abstract EN

This research identifies one of the early figures and eloquent narrators.

It unveils how scholars learned from him, such as al-Kisā’ī (d.189h/....) , and how Abu amr ash-Shaybānī (d.

206h/...) quoted him, and then how ibn as-Sikkīt (d.

244h/....) cited his narratives.

That figure is Abu izām ālib b.

al-ārith al-uklī (d.170h/.....).

He emerged as a poet using difficult and obsolete words which were then outspread through the Arabic dictionaries along with his vocabulary and narratives.

The aim of this research is to identify aluklī’s status amid his generation in terms of language, poetry, and size of narrations, as well as to highlight a rare and precious explanation dedicated to some of his poems in the second century of Hijra (8th CE).

The explanation was made by Abu Moammad al-Amawī (203 h/....) one of the most venerated scholars of the Arabic language.

What drew my attention to Abu izām Al-uklī and drove my interest to him, is my attempts to remove the veil from the narrators of Abu amr ash-Shaybānī in his dictionary “Aljīm” in terms of collection, biography, and extraction of some narratives, but it was not as easy as I imagined.

After collecting more than one hundred names and more than two hundred narratives – I apprehended that studying all narratives in a limited research, may be a hard task.

For that reason, I limited my work on Al-uklī.

I collected his poetry, edited it, and supplemented annotations to the poems explained by Abu Moammad al-Amawī.

Such a precious explanation reveals the difficult words laying in those poems and made them very accessible to those treating them .

The research contains an introduction that deals with the narration of the poetry and the language as well as their figures.

A biography of Aluklī was added, then, an explanation of what reached us of his poetry.

His poems were exposed after being edited, and three of them- the Hamza-ending, Sīn-ending and Tā’- ending- were explained by Abu Moammad al-Amawī verse by verse.

This explanation is historically very important.

After the poems, a lexicon of Al-ʿuklī was compiled based on poetry.

Following a brief preamble, the narratives which were quoted by the dictionary came Aljīm of Abu amr ash- Shaybānī were coupled by some corrections of mistakes related to printed version.

The research ends with a succinct conclusion followed by the primary sources that contained the poetry of Al-uklī.

This allows us to see how his poetry dispersed; the verse was located in more than one article of each dictionary.

Based on the efforts deployed in this research, the dispersed poems got all together after long-standing division and separation.
