Abstract EN

The science of semiotics analyzes the signs in the context of literary texts and their connection with the title and content of the text and it has recently gained a widespread position in the criticism of the modern linguistics.

This paper is an attempt to analyze one of the odes entitled “Afdi Blaek (I Will Sacrifice myself to you Pain)” written by the Jordanian contemporary poet “Ayman Al-Atum”.

He is considered as one of the poets of resistance literature.

Relying on an analytico-descriptive approach and by virtue of the references related to linguistic analysis the present paper deals with analyzing this ode.

At first, the study is commenced by defining the word ‘semiotics’ in respect to its lexicon and technical meaning followed by recognizing the subject of the title in the ode and its relation with context thereof.

Finally, it has been concluded that the process of choosing the title in this poem has not been emerged accidentally or subconsciously but it had been mapped in his mind beforehand and we realized that the process of choosing the title is in a close and intimate connection with the structure of the ode.

It was clarified that in this process, the poet expresses religious and political subjects among which the topic of occupied Palestine is the top priority.

He has aimed at defending the Islamic and Arabic Identity and depicting ethnic affiliation as well as the spiritual pain of the occupied Palestine caused by the offences of the Zionist Regime against this oppressed nation.

Accordingly, we can find out a type of coherence between the title and concept of the ode.
