For many years Turkey has been a net importer of natural gas; however, the latest discovery of natural gas in the Black Sea is considered as a turning point in Turkey’s future.

Starting from 2012, Turkey has undergone an energy transition period and as a result of the effective and successful policies Turkey now is among the few states that can conduct exploratory activities in their offshore territories.

Turkey’s discovery was one of the largest ever in the Black Sea and it is maybe one of the greatest in 2020.

This article provides a general framework of the energy transition in Turkey, called Turkish Energy Transition 1.0 and 2.0, followed by an analysis of how the latest discovery in the Sakarya field would impact Turkey from three different perspectives: energy, economy and geopolitical.

Furthermore, as a result of its importance, the natural gas discovery in the Black Sea became the center of attention for many domestic and international actors.

Within this context, this article will briefly analyze the domestic and international reactions to this discovery.
