Abstract EN

Although there are a lot of theoretical and critical studies on biographies, there are not enough comparative literary studies in Arabic literature.

This paper aims to fill in the gaps in Arabic comparative literature, which falls upon twomajor works in literature: Fadwa Tuqan’s biography, "A Mountainous Journey," and Maya Angelou’s biography, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings".

Both poets own valuable literary status in their cultures.

Also, they both suffered on a personal and social level being a part of the twentieth century.

Each one has chosen to express their suffering through writing biographies.

The comparative study relies on the distinctive features existing in the biographical genre, which is resembled in the referential pact and related genre awareness.

The biographical identity she portrayed for herself was delivered through the narrator.

The study finally captures the relationship between the author’s personal and social experiences while comparing them.

In conclusion, this paper illustrates and stresses on the similarities and differences between these two women and their literary works in delivering their life experiences
