Abstract EN

The study aimed at identifying the impact of the remittances of Sudanese expatriates, on the Sudanese balance of payments during 1980-2015.

Descriptive and analytical methods were used to analyze the data of a random sample of the Sudanese expatriates.

The study most important results include that the Sudanese expatriates’ remittances play a vital role in providing foreign exchange, releasing financial hardships, and reducing the balance of payments deficit; despite the fact that a large portion of this remittances flow outside the banking system, where only 3.5% of the sample transfer their remittances via the banking system.

However, these remittances have a cost effect on indigenous economic variables depending on how well (or bad) it had been used.

Therefore, new policies are required for restoring the trust in the banking system to attract more expatriates savings, thus, enhancing its contribution in the economy
