Orientalist travelers were the best of those who were employed to serve various purposes and goals that serve their countries and serve to write about important parts of the heritage of Arab countries, and western countries occupied most of the countries of the world.

the trip to the country of the Hijaz was a goal characterized by the writings of western travelers to write diaries and notes about everything that can be recorded and reinforce this by taking photographic snapshots to document what can be documented and follow a variety of methods until they reach their goals such as embracing the Islamic religion and changing the features of their personalities and names so as not to doubt at their command.

the trip to the land of the Hejaz is very important, especially as it includes the two most important cities among its holy shrines, Makkah and Madinah, and a major port in the region is Jeddah.

Jeddah was an important station and a common link in the writings of western travelers, as it is a port with a strategic location on the red sea, the presence of consulates and representatives of the countries of the world, and a station for multiple options, from which it is possible to travel and go to more than one region and cities directly from the west of the Arabian peninsula to various parts of it.

i chose to study the history of Jeddah at the beginning of the 14th century ah, corresponding to the last quarter of the nineteenth century ad, through two trips, the main goal of which was the trip to Makkah, and it is natural for the two trips to depart in and out of Jeddah in most cases, and therefore Jeddah must obtain its share of writing and history.

it has a whole according to its vision and aspiration, and to try to reach the extent of the influence of volatile situations and conditions, especially political conditions, on the method of codification in a historical period that resulted in changes in historical events in my study, i rely on two travels of westerners and their books-: Snook Horgorne and his book "pages from the history of Makkah" gervaiscortelmon and his book "my journey to Makkah" the study will focus on the vision of the two trips, the way of writing, and the extent of their influence with the historical events at the time, and the most prominent of what was mentioned in them, as the time difference between them is nearly ten years, to come up with what the study can reach to the history of an important period for Jeddah, and the extent of its development or historical and cultural influence.

the study will include- : foreword : Snook and Cortelmon "their biography and journey" the first topic : the conditions of Jeddah between 1300-1315 ah / 1882-1898ad.
