Abstract EN

The current research aims to know the problems that students of the fifth grade of science encounter in their choice of the biological or applied branch from their point of view by answering the following two questions: 1- What are the problems that the fifth grade students face in choosing the biological or applied branch from their point of view? 2- Identifying the differences between fifth grade students according to the gender variable (male and female) in their choice of the biological or applied branch? The current research was limited to a sample of fifth-grade scientific students in the biological and application branches in day schools in the Babil Governorate Center for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The researcher adopted the descriptive and analytical approach because it fits with his research procedures through a questionnaire that included (20) paragraphs of (10) paragraphs for educational problems and (10) paragraphs for psychological problems, the researcher prepared an open questionnaire, as it is the main tool to achieve the two objectives of the research, and on the research sample of (752) male and female students, of (350) male and (402) female students, the researcher used the Pearson correlation coefficient, weighted mean, and percentage weight as methods.

The results of the research revealed the existence of educational and psychological problems affecting students 'choice of the biological or applied branch, and in light of the results of the research the researcher recommended the following: Urging some schools to open the two branches in their schools and for the educational counselor to take his role in this field, and the researcher suggested the following: Conducting a similar research for the research Current according to the branch variable (biological or applied)
