Abstract EN

After the British withdrawal from the Arabic Gulf in 1971, the United States sought to strengthen its influence in the region in which Washington realized that its military force presence in the Persian Gulf preserves its strategic and economic interests, and that would consolidate its relations with the newly independent countries.

Therefore, the United States made an agreement with Bahrain in 1971 which required the continued stationing of the American forces in the Middle East as power in Bahrain.

Although the agreement had an important role in strengthening the American presence and protecting Washington’s interests in the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean during a critical period of the conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union, the continuation of the agreement was marred by many difficulties, and the Bahraini government was exposed to internal and external pressures resulted from the refusal of the agreement because of the US military force presence in Bahrain, which eventually led to the termination of the agreement in 1977
