Abstract EN

Research Topic The research focuses on one of the transmission chains in which al-Dahhak bin Muzahim Al-Hilali reports from a Companion, ‘Abd Allah bin ‘Abbas to whom a lot of false narrations are attributed hence many a controversy over it.

Research Objective Differentiating authentic narrations from weak ones on the authority of al-Dahhak with a view to contributing to the review of tafsir, investigating its chains of narrators, and identifying impact of weak narrations, advancing caution against their acceptability in Islamic rulings and identifying the weak chains.

Research Problem Disconnection in the transmission chain: Al-Dahhak did not meet Ibn ‘Abbas.

He met his student Sa’eed bin Jubair who is his source for Ibn ‘Abbas’ views.

Sa’eed bin Jubair is highly knowledgeable and trustworthy.

If it is certain that al-Dhahhak’s source is Sa’eed ibn Jubair, then his reports from Ibn ‘Abbas is to be considered strong.

Research Findings It is confirmed that there is disconnection between al-Dahhak and Ibn Abbas.

Al-Dahhak’s reports therefor need scrutiny and comparison with other chains leading to Ibn Abbas and others from Tabi’in especially students of Ibn ‘Abbas, and more specifically Sa’eed bin Jubair, in addition to other sayings that can serve as affirmative and support, although most of what I came across and observed among his narrations are strong and in congruence with narrations of Sa’eed bin Jubair and Ali bin Abi Talhah.
