Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the extent of preference of the faculty members and their assistants at Assiut university for e-book .

the study also aimed at revealing the impact of its variables on the degree of preference of this type of information sources.

to accomplish these objectives, a three- pronged questionnaire was prepared, divided into fifteen questions.

this questionnaire was applied to a sample of200 individuals.

in order to analyze their answers, rogers' model for diffusion of innovations was used.

this model consists of five variables: comparative advantage, compatibility, complexity, experimentality, and observation.

the researcher incorporated a new variable," awareness", and used it as an external variable to know how it affects the adoption and use of e-books by the faculty members and their assistants at Assiut university.

the results of this study concluded that e-books are indispensable means of cognitive communication among researchers, especially in self- education.

the study also concluded that the relationship between the e-book and the traditional book is a relationship of integration and that the emergence of e-book does not cancel the paper book, but adds to it.

the study recommends the need to develop a mechanism to reduce the work of the legislation for the protection of digital materials and software, and the need for more quality e-books and more accurate design specifications.
