Attempt to estimate the return on social public spending in Algeria over the period (1998-2019)This article aims to measure the impact of public social spending in Algeria during the period 1998-2019, where an attempt was made to assess the impact of social spending at the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels.

This is by Using some approved methods to assess social spending performance at the World Bank and the Ministry of the Economy, Quebec, CanadaSince the implementation of the structural adjustment program, successive Algerian governments have focused on spending on social protection.

Assistance in cash and in kind has been granted to individuals - or groups of individuals - to alleviate or even eliminate their fragile situation.

But the results remained weak.

We found from the study that the effect of social spending in Algeria is insufficient and has a negative impact - which makes the redistribution policy ineffective.

Rather than improving the status of vulnerable groups, the social situation is exacerbated by various factors (price, opportunism, etc.

).

Therefore, policymakers should review the development and implementation of social policies in order to obtain a positive return on social public spending.
