Abstract EN
Objective : to compare the different effects of a combination of 2 % Lignocaine plus Fentanyl, 0.5 % heavy Bupivacaine in patients underwent subarachnoid anesthesia for transurethral surgery.
Methods : in a randomized double blinded study, 60 patients who underwent subarachnoid anesthesia for transurethral surgery were divided into two groups: Patients in group A received 2.5-3 ml of 0.5 % heavy bupivacaine while patients in group B received 2.5-3 ml of 2 % Lignocaine plus 25 ug Fentanyl.
Heart rate, systolic arterial pressure and oxygen saturation were recorded prior to, during, and after surgery.
Sensory and motor blocks were recorded at 2, 5, and 15 minutes and then every 15 minutes till the sensory block had worn off.
Results : the use of Lignocaine plus Fentanyl resulted in a significant shorter duration of sensory and motor block and increased cardiovascular stability upon return to the ward.
Conclusion : lignocaine 2 % (2.5-3 ml) plus 25 ug of Fentanyl injected intrathecally, represent an excellent choice of spinal anesthesia for patients undergoing transurethral surgery.
