The Small and medium enterprises sector is an effective means of achieving local development, This is because of its characteristics and advantages that enable it to expand in all regions of the country, which helps in the multiplicity of various economic activities.

The strengthening of these institutions will create a variety of jobs and reduce unemployment.

And thus mobilizes all individuals in the community to achieve economic development.

In this context, the public authorities in Algeria have taken a number of measures to support this type of institutions in terms of material, organizational and legislative and has established the structures of strengthening these institutions and rehabilitating them in various sectors economic activity, and from the main goal of the research paper is to highlight the role of small and medium enterprises in Economic development in general and its importance in the exploitation of local resources.
