Abstract EN

Different concepts concerning poetry had been proposed by ancient Arabic critics.

Some of them said that poetry is a harmony between the word and meaning together with rhythm .

Aljahiz argued that the effective element in the poetry and what deepen the value of poetic text in the recipient’s the soul is the word.

Although Aljahiz tends to word not to meaning, however, the good choice and taking care of word should be side by side with the meaning .

Whereas AL-Tabataba’I found that poetry is a versified speech differs from prose text that is used by people as poetry involves a word, meaning , rhythm and its structure differs from prose text structure, thus, the poetic text should be searched and adjusted from time to time by the poet so as enjoyment of hearing poetic text could be reached .

Qudamah Bin Jaefer pointed that poetry is a rhythmic utterance indicates meaning.

When the word , meaning and rhythm are incorporated together then poetic text will be created .

It could be noted that Qudamah differs from other critics in his sight to the poetry.

He considered rhythm as an essential element in poetry , while the other critics such as Bin Tabataba’I did not.

He also pointed to a very important issue that is if the poet wanted tp praise someone , he must take into account the praised person status .

In addition to, Qudamah showed that description and metaphor are fundamental purposes.

In spite of most critics do not considered them as a separated purposes but they come accidental in the poem.
