Abstract EN

The Sahel region is a high priority for Algerian decision makers due to its strategic importance on the one hand, and the new security stakes that have become a challenge to Algeria's national security perceptions in its southern depth on the other.

The study is based on the premise that the geopolitical realities in the Sahel region require regional and international states to act in isolation (from a realistic view) or by traditional blocs to draw up new policies and divisions in the region.

The study raises many questions about the possibility of "returning Algeria" to be a prominent regional actor, in a turbulent and risky geographical neighborhood, which reconsiders its security approach in the Sahel region, namely how to balance internal and external challenges, where the study will examine the effectiveness of the Algerian security approach in the politically and economically fragile internal situation, and how the foundations of this approach can be adapted to the new geopolitical realities in the region.
