Abstract EN

One of the most important figures in Christianity is the virgin Mary, and one of the christian controversies surounding her is: did the respect she recieved made any christian worship her and think of her as divine? or that this has never happened by any Christian as some researchers claim, thus, the Qur'an was wrong when it said that some Christians believed her to be divine? , or that some christians really worshiped her but that happened only after the council of Ephesus or Chalcedon as others claim? This is what this study attempts to investigate and answer.

After examination and analysis of the most important Christian sources written about Mary from the first century AD to the fifth, we have found that the first text addressed to her directly as a worship is what was reported in the papyrus named "Beneath your Preservation" at the end of the third century AD, and that there was a Christian sect in the Arabian Peninsula in the fourth century AD called Kollyridianism who believes that she is a goddess and worshiped her by various types of worship, exactly as the Holy Qur'an claimed.
