Abstract EN

This research aims to identify the importance and concept of foreign investment in both direct and indirect، as well as the reality of the Iraqi banking system to find out the most important developments that are going through and overcome the obstacles that stand in front of it، the nature of direct and indirect foreign investments and their impact on the national economy، and to extent the capacity of the banking system to influence these investment and attract them in a way that benefits the public on the national economy.

The research focuses on Iraq because it has large (oil، agricultural، human) resources، making it a successful investment center، The central bank`s monetary policy has had a significant impact on attracting foreign investment، where the central bank managed to curb high inflation rates and to adjust interest rate، as after 2007، through open market operations and adjusting interest rates.

The foreign investment in the banking system was analyzed in terms of the nature of foreign investments received either in the form of new banks or in the form of mergers and acquisition in the capital of existing Iraqi banks.

And also the participation of foreign banks from some different countries.

As well as to clarify how the relative distribution of foreign investments in the Iraq market for securities in terms of the number of shares traded and the value of foreign exchange، The Iraqi banking system has endeavored through its institutions to make the process of attracting foreign investment and upgrading its banking status similar to the advanced banking system، However، the ability to bring this apparatus to foreign investments in general is still less than what the economy needs and the aspiration of the economy policy makers
