Abstract EN

Through the present paper, we aim at shedding light on the presence of Sufism in Hadj Mohamed Sofiane's poetry, we start by presenting an overview of the poet's life, and then we move to showing his critical contribution to the Algerian popular poetry.

Next, we go on to demonstrate the manifestation of Sufism in his poetry presented in the theme of monotheism, the prayers, the praise and the supplications to the prophet and his miracles, the theme of Mecca, Medina and the poet's desire to visit them, in addition to the use of the Quranic stories such as the story of prophet Solomon, peace be upon him.

Moreover, we attempt to derive the manifestations of mystic maqams in his poetry such as the maqam of love and repentance.

The paper concludes that the impact of thereligious culture is apparent in Hadj Mohamed Sofiane's poetry, and it is reflected in borrowing from the Holy Quran in most of his poems.

And, that is what characterises the majority of the Algerian popular poets such as Sheikh Semati and Sidi Lakhdar Ben Khallouf.
