During the modem era, the Maghreb countries were devastated by epidemics and diseases, which were an extension of the ones that emerged in the Middle Ages in the Islamic Maghreb, with serious effects on the economic and social structure, causing one of the factors of demographic decline, which was reflected negatively at that time.

The phenomenon of epidemics and diseases takes on its importance through the effects and consequences that affect the country, society and authority, and from the point of view of the other, and its vision of this phenomenon, which sometimes transforms the balance of power in the world.

These sources (travelers and foreign books) reflect the vision of travelers and foreigners facing epidemics and diseases, especially since these sources contain living historical data on the reality of these epidemics and diseases and their negative effects on life, social and economic, like the daily scenes of illness, fear and panic, as well as the means of combating these epidemics by religion and science.
