Abstract EN

This article examines the health field of Algeria during the colonial period.

Algeria, like the countries of the Mediterranean, has suffered from various epidemics and diseases that have spread on its lands and caused significant human losses.

The epidemic of cholera is considered to be the one that struck Algeria especially with the beginning of the nineteenth century.

This article is an understanding of the cholera epidemic, its transmission method and its effects on the Algerian society, which has suffered greatly from the scourge of this epidemic, so the colonial administration had to stand against the effectiveness of the spread of this epidemic by imposing preventive measures against it, so it took measures in major cities and Civil ones for the protection of settlers primarily, and left Algerians facing terrible fate of cholera.
