This research questions the content of the knowledge and use of psychoactive substances in general and alcohol and cannabis specifically in human civilizations; Mesopotamia, ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek, Southeast Asia, Arab-Islamic and modern times.

To answer these questions, the researcher used the content analysis method.

The overall results indicated that the people of those civilizations knew and used psychoactive substances at rates varying between (16.

67%-100%).

In conclusion, the researcher suggested a set of proposals, including the investigation of psychoactive substances in the religions.
