يعتبر التعليم الجامعي أحد العناصر الأساسية المهمة في دعم التنمية البشرية في جميع أنحاء العالم، حيث إن التعليم الجامعي لا يوفر للفرد المهارات الأساسية اللازمة لسوق العمل فقط، و إنما يوفر أيضا تدريب ضروري لجميع الأفراد على اختلاف تخصصاتهم، إن التنمية الشاملة في أي بلد تقع على عاتق التعليم بصفة عامة و بشكل أساسي على الجامعة باعتبارها الأداة الأهم و الأكثر فاعلية في العملية التنموية، فعليها يقع عبء تطوير أجهزة الدولة و مؤسساتها و توجيه نشاطاتها الوجهة الصحيحة التي تخدم أهداف التنمية الوطنية الشاملة.
و يعتبر الأستاذ الجامعي حجر الزاوية في العملية التكوينية و العمود الفقري في الجامعة فمن خلال النشاطات التي يقومون بها (تدريس، ابحاث، مؤلفات، اشرافات.

)فإنهم يحضون بمكانة مرموقة و كان لابد من الاهتمام بتكوينهم و تأهيلهم خاصة في ظل الإصلاحات الجامعية و التطور المعلوماتي الهائل الذي يشهده العالم اليوم، و يمكن تنفيذ و تطبيق مفهوم الجودة الشاملة في التعليم الجامعي، من خلال توفر كادر أكاديمي يمتلك كفايات و مهارات في كافة المجلات الأكاديمية و المهنية و المسلكية و الثقافية و الإنسانية و البحثية و يمارسها في الواقع، و التي يمكن أن تظهر في نتاج عمله في: "التدريس، و تطوير البرامج، تطوير المقررات، و الإرشاد الأكاديمي، و الإشراف، و الترجمة، و التأليف، و إجراء البحوث و خدمات.
و سنحاول من خلال ورقتنا البحثية تسليط الضوء على خصائص و ادوار الاستاذ الجامعي في ظل متطلبات الجودة

University education is an essential element in supporting human development worldwide.
University education provides not only the basic skills needed for the labor market, but also the necessary training for all individuals of all disciplines.
