The process of cultural and intellectual revival of society depends on the effectiveness of the educated element, and the process of modernizing Algerian society at the beginning of the twentieth century was linked to the cultural activity led by the first pioneers of Algerian students who had the luck of education in Islamic institutes after being deprived of Arab education in Algeria due to colonialism.

The trend of Algerian students to Tunisia increased since the beginning of the twentieth century after the recommendations of the returnees, and it was the first student mission in 1913, where the Algerians were able to learn about the Arab-Islamic heritage and contribute to the cultural, journalistic and political life in Tunisia.

Starting in 1934, the Algerian students joined the Zitouna University in the Zitouna Student Association as a union organization to frame their intellectual and political formation, which made them struggle for Maghreb unity as an effective means of putting pressure on joint colonialism, and included them in the revolutionary work in 1957 by joining the General Union of Algerian Muslim Students.
