literal speech or the figurative one as a rhetorical device beginning from the oldest rhetorical opinions ofthe classical Arab rhetoricians, namely, from ibn rasheiq Al-Qairawani (d.463 A .

H) to ibn via Abdul-Qahil• Al-jurjani 626.

637 A.H) and As-Sakkaki (d A.H) and ending with Al-khatib Al-Qazweini (d .739 A.H) of'course ,abdul classifying in Qahir Al-gurgani conformed a qualitative turning -point simile as a literal speech or a figur^ive one through his differentiating between the literal speech and the figurative one firstly , and between simile and “compound simile “ secondly .

this differentiation has been acknowledged by his following rhetoricians .This study employed Abdul- qahir’s view with the help pf Katz’ and Fodor’s theory of semantic features that shifted this view in to firm applicatory reality it concluded that three quarters of simile lie inside the figurative speech and the remaining quarter out of it K three quarters of simile as a partitively simile , the simile that its likeness is dropped in a way that allows the receiver to interpret to search for the likeness and the real quarter of simile , the one in which its likeness that dose not oblige the receiver to interpret is mentioned .

This is AL- jui'jani’s criterion for its is mentioned with the thing liked and the object of likeness
