The research paper aimed to show the role of strategic planning in developing the performance of academic leaders in Saudi universities, as the education sector is one of the most important sectors of the state that must face changes and challenges, and keep pace with developments effectively, to reach the highest degree of efficiency in achieving the desired goals, so universities need to a certain type of leaders who are able to understand change and practice its requirements successfully.

From this point of view, the issue of developing the performance of academic leaders in developed countries occupied a prominent position.

Describing performance development as one of the most important processes that leaders must understand and adopt.

The research paper shows the concept of developing the performance of academic leaders, the importance and obstacles of strategic planning, the importance, methods and stages of the requirements for developing the performance of academic leaders and obstacles to performance development, as well as the characteristics of the strategic leader, the skills needed to be available in the strategic leader and the factors helping to prepare and develop the strategic leader, and the performance of global expertise in the field of leadership development the academy and its benefits.
