Abstract EN

The research aimed at investigating the correlation between Fears of Compassion, Psychological Abuse Experiences, and Cognitive Distortions among university students.

It revealed the significance of the gender differences in Fears of Compassion and the relative contribution of Psychological Abuse Experiences and Cognitive Distortions in predicting Fears of Compassion and its dimensions.

In addition, it aimed at identifying the mediating role of Cognitive Distortions in the relationship between Psychological Abuse Experiences and Fears of Compassion beside the differences of personality dynamics and psychological structure of the highest fears of compassion case and the lowest fears of compassion case from the perspective of clinical study.

Sample of the study consisted of (370) students from Minia University, while the sample of the clinical study consisted of extreme cases.

The tools of the study included the Fears of Compassion scale, Psychological Abuse Experiences scale and Cognitive Distortions scale (prepared by the researcher).

In addition to the Clinical tools which included the interview form and a group of T.A.T charts.

The study resulted in: there is a positive and significant correlation between Fears of Compassion, Psychological Abuse Experiences, and Cognitive Distortions.

Also, There are statistically significant differences between males and females in fears of compassion(for self-from others) and total degree favoring females.

While, there are no statistically significant differences between males and females in fear of compassion for others.

Also, Fears of Compassion can be predicted among individuals of the sample through identifying their scores in Psychological Abuse Experiences and Cognitive Distortions.

Cognitive Distortions was a partial mediator variable between Psychological Abuse Experiences and Fears of Compassion.

The clinical results coincided with psychometric results, but clinical results explained the causal relationship between the phenomena revealed by psychometric study.
