Abstract EN

"The study sought to identify the role of the Department of Libraries and Documents at Tanta University in community participation and to develop the proposed vision to implement it and achieve its goals using the case study approach based on the checklist as a tool for data collection.

The study was applied to the Department of Libraries and Documents, Faculty of Arts, Tanta University.

The most prominent result was that the number of theses and scientific research produced by the department in general reached (296) scientific research and thesis.

Out of them, only (76) scientific research and scientific thesis serve the local community in Gharbia Governorate, represented by (38) master dissertations, (16) Ph.D.

thesis, and (22) scientific research.

The department’s training activity has also increased in recent years.

The number of courses and workshops offered by the department over the past few years has reached about (58) training courses and workshops, from (2015) until the beginning of (2020), all provided to members of the local community.

The department has enriched its role by holding four seminars, two scientific forums, two conferences to serve the local community in Gharbia Governorate, and four introductory meetings directed to new first-year students only.

The results indicated that there is no cooperative protocol between the department and information institutions, while there is a cooperative protocol for the institution as a whole.

And some visions were formulated to activate community participation to create a link between the department and the community, with the need to develop a material base necessary to achieve the necessary support.
